Synaptic Vesicle Proteins

Finished_240206_Synaptic_Vesicle_Proteins_Resized.svg

The synaptic vesicle glycoprotein family consists of three members (SV2A, SV2B and SV2C) that are key components of synaptic vesicles. They contain 3-5 N-linked glycosylation sites that are further elongated with Keratan sulfate. The keratan sulfate functions as a resevoire for neurotransmitter binding within the vesicles and allows for the fast release of transmitters upon stimulation and release of the vesicle content into the synaptic cleft. 1
