Oligodendrocyte myelin glycoprotein (OMGP) is a GPI-anchored protein expressed in neurons and oligodendrocytes. OMGP is by a leucine-rich repeat (LRR) domain, placing OMGP within the LRR superfamily of proteins that play important roles in cell-cell adhesion. Unlike the bulk of synaptic cleft family members of the LRR-family, OMGP stands out by having a mucin-like domain with 4.5 Ser/Thr-rich tandem repeats between it’s LRR. OMGP acts as myelin-derived inhibitor for axonal outgrowth, by binding to its receptors NgR and PirB. 1 2 3 4
